Their web site is down, simply announcing they have been aquired by Informix (http://www.centerview.com). Very strange behaviour. It contained a lot of support info for their customers. I assume it will be up again soon if Informix don't intend to kill off the company and it's products and simply use some of their techonolgy. They sure need people who know a lot about MS Windows development. For a some information on what CenterView have check out: http://www.pcweek.com/news/0715/17acent.html http://www.internetsourcebook.com:80/sbookf/profiles/cp369.html http://microsoft.saltmine.com:80/devonly/community/enterprise/vbads/cv_v7/cvdbn.htm Data Director used to be called Choreo. They have Visual Basic RAD tools and Inter/Intranet development tools combining ActiveX and Java. May be it's their intranet deployment architecture that's interesting to Informix? Or does Informix intend to go into the Visual Basic development market? ActiveX technology may be fine for Intranet, but make sure you do not ever use it for Internet deployment. It's dangerous. Also their Visual Basic tools *may* be ok. I haven't evaluated them, but VB is interesting. Informix probably have to do some things related to VB and VBA as it's one of the most widely used tools for database access. For many types of applications it's not a bad tool (some c.d.i. posters dissagreament notwithstanding :-). Whether a development add on for VB is the right direction is another issue. I never evaluated Data Director because I don't like the idea of a tool that writes the code for me. May be I should have. You may also check out http://www.microway.com.au:80/logicworks/lw_cv.html for information about using ERwin and Choreo (now Data Director) together. They did also have some prior relationship with Informix as of a press release from them from 17.06.96 to integrate some of their products with OWS. I can't find the complete press release an longer. It will be interesting to see what Informix will do with a company like this.
