Determining non-default IDS instal location
Posted in 2009
Emile asked how to locate an IDS installation on a Unix/Linux box when it isn't in the default directory, without grepping the whole filesystem for oninit. Suggestions included searching /etc/rc* or /etc/init.d startup scripts, running find / -name oninit, and checking the INFORMIXDIR environment variable under the informix login. The accepted answer came from Guy: 'cat /INFORMIXTMP/.infxdirs', which lists the installation directories; the original poster confirmed this was exactly what he needed.

Hello,
What's the best way to find where IDS is installed on a non-windows system if
IDS isn't installed in the default install location? Short of grepping the
system for oninit, is there any means of figuring out where Informix is
installed?
Thanks,
Emile.

Search the startup files in /etc/rc* or /etc/init.d? Use find:
find / -name oninit -print

If you log in as informix the INFORMIXDIR environment variable MAY be set.
This points to a directory where informix software is installed.
