I downloaded 9.30 demo for Linux from IIUG and try to install it w/ RPM
without any luck. I keep getting an error reported by rpm, "ERROR:
INFORMIXDIR doesn't match the target directory name provided in the rpm
command........
I login as root,
mkdir /opt/informix
export INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informixrpm -i *.rpm
What's wrong with this procedure? Thanks.
Luke

Hi,
you run probably in a known rpm bug in RedHat Linux, see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=75057
The bug should be fixed in rpm-4.2-0.42.
The first workaround is following:
You can only install in /opt/informix also set
export RPM_INSTALL_PREFIX=/opt/informix
export INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix
The second workaround is translating the rpm to a cpio file:
rpm2cpio IDS.rpm > IDS.cpio
Then install the product like on other platforms.

Thank you for all the tip and trick. I do use rpm4.0
