NewEra database update hassles
Posted in 1995
I'm trying to learn NewEra in my "spare" time (Sundays!) and am having problems making my database changes permanent. Within the Window Painter: - Select "New" from the "File" menu to create a new window. - Set the database property to "sports", and "theStartup" to true. - Select the free-form SuperTable object, and draw a large box. - Choose the "customer" table, and paste "customer_num" and "company" into the SuperTable. - Now select the "Apply Row", "Insert Row", "Next Row", "Previous Row", "Query" and "Retrieve" buttons. Arrange these buttons nicely. - Select "Save" from the "File" menu, under the name "amidumb",and leave the Window Painter. - Load the application builder and create a new project for the "amidumb" program. Compile and run it. - Click "Retrieve", then change the company field of the first record ("All Sports Supplies") to "Have I gone mad?". Click "Apply Row". - Click "Insert Row" to add a new row with a company field value of "Hope not!". Click "Apply Row". - Click "Query", and enter "H*" into the company field. Click "Retrieve". - "Next Row"/"Previous Row"/"Query"/"Retrieve"/"Insert Row"/"Apply Row" your little heart out. Change anything you like. Everything looks great until you quit the program and then re-run it. All my old data comes back! I *know* I've missed something utterly fundamental, but I can't spot what. Do I need some kind of "commit" gizmo or something? Thanks, Kerry S BTW: The NewEra mailing list is on hold until I can find some mailing list software (which is being delayed by a lack of ftp access at the moment). There is a strong interest in such a mailing list, and if somebody with more net access than I wants to implement one I can give you the names of those interested in being on the list) kerry@kcbbs.gen.nz
