I have encountered error -4518 _The 4GL program cannot allocate any more
space for temporary string storage_ on several occcasions. The error
messages then reference you to error -1334. According to this message the
error only occurs in certain circumstances. Two examples of these
circumstances follow (note that these are taken from the manual):
LET charvar = numvar USING '###', myfunc()
and
CASE charvar
when 'A' call func_A()
when 'B' call func_B()
.....
Our local support in Southern Africa agrees with the manual. This is *not*
true!
The error also occurs in at least two other cases that I have encountered.
The first was as a result of a large record. As this was a good six months
ago I forget the size, but breaking the record into two records solved the
problem.
The second is caused by placing a syntactically incorrect SQL statement
after a _Whenever error continue_ statement. Nothing happens immediately,
but after suffiently many passes, depending on the size of your data
structures, the error finally occurs.
We are using Informix 4GL 4.10.UD2. The manual ataes that this error is
fixed in releases since 4.1. Is this true? If it is true, does anyone
know if it is true for the conditions I have stated above?
