RE: Speaking of rumors...

First, I wonder if anyone noticed the dates of the posts. :-P Second, The Octal card is real, its just not a product that can be purchased yet. Only customer w Octal is the US Govt. Third... If you still think in terms of a SAN as your disk storage, then you need to rethink your model. Its as about up to date as Lester's "Learn how to build a DW " class. (Sorry Lester, but its the truth.) People are building multi-TB clouds that are DWs, albeit most of the data is pretty much junk. (IMHO) If you want to see an example, look at Facebook or Twitter. Do you think that a traditional DW could scale to the volume of information? Its funny to talk to Dell folks where they are now teaming with Greenplum in terms of a 'shared nothing' database. Hmmm. Now where is XPS? Oh I forgot, minimal investment and no net new customers in 10 years? Like I said, when you stop what you are doing, and really start to think about it, IBM has their own agenda and IDS isn't really a part of it. I mean sure they'll take as much revenue as they can from it, but outside of the IIUG event, how often do you hear them talk about IDS? Sorry... but the silence speaks louder than words. -G From: art.kagel@gmail.com Date: Thu, 1 Apr 2010 21:26:33 -0400 Subject: Re: Speaking of rumors...
