Re: ** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - RECORD-BREAKING TPC-C RECORD!! **

Has any body ever considered that when choosing a DBMS the performance should not be the overriding factor. 1) The relative performance between different vendors changes almost on the monthly basis. What is the fastest today is slow tomorrow. 2) When choosing a DBMS you should first consider its stability, vendor support, tool support and the query optimiser. So what if you have the fastest and the largest database if you cannot guarantee the system availability and have no tools to mange large databases. 3) Even the fastest database engine with biggest benchmarks will not save you from problems caused by bad database design and inefficient SQL. The greatest performance gains can be made by: + Spending extra time and money to ensure you have efficient database design which will meet all of your application's processing requirements. + Spending time on educating your programmers how to write efficient SQL.
