Web Datablade installation: Here's my situation. From the Redhat 6.1 CD I installed Linux server (which automatically installs apache) Then Informix DS 2000, and finally Client SDK As the install didn't come with any Apache source I had to install this myself by: rpm -ivh apache-1.3.9.-5.src.rpm Then I cd to /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/ and run apache.spec rpm -ba apache.spec This built an Apache directory structure at the location /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/apache_1.3.9 This directory contains the source files (Configuration.tmpl etc) When I make the necessary changes (outlined in the machine notes) and execute the 'make' and 'make install' commands, the directories are built in the directory that I defined in the ./configure command with the --prefix command (eg /usr/apache). All good so far I think. I However, how do I get to use this new instance of the server? When I execute the command /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart to restart the Apache server it still defaults to the old server configuration. When I try and access a perl test script from the new cgi-bin directory (/usr/apache/cgi-bin) I get a result from the old perl test script located in the /home/httpd/cgi-bin! Am I making this more complicated than it need be! Is it just a case of replacing the old httpd binary (which I cant find the location of) with the newly compiled one? How can I test that the new modules have been incorporated? What are the file names of the informix modules being compiled into the new Apache binary? (when adding libraries to Configuration.tmpl file using the EXTRA_LIBS variable you are using what seem to be aliases to file names and not actual file names eg -lifxw -lifsql -lifasf -lifgen -lifos -lifgls ) Alternatively: Can I just add them to the 'AddModule' and 'LoadModule' sections of the httpd.conf file? Do I have to add any more modules to the httpd.conf files (or any others) How would I implement dynamic module loading of the web datablade 4.00 modules with Apache? Sorry to bombard you with all these questions! Many thanks Rob
Rob, This is your problem: You are trying to install the web datablade with a previously installed Apache configuration. Before you do all this, make sure that you have Informix 9.2 installed and working. 1. Download another tar ball (if you don't already have one). 2. Uncompress it. 3. Move the uncompressed directory to the directory where you want to install apache. I use /usr/local/etc. Don't move it to the directory where you previously installed apache. 4. Type ./configure --PREFIX=your directory 5. Edit the Configuration file in the src directory exactly as the documentation says to do it. While you do this, you can take the opportunity to install whatever Apache modules you think you might want to use in addition to the Informix module. 6. Make whatever changes you need to make to the Apache source code if you're planning to use server side includes, etc. 7. Type make in the src directory 8. CD back to the main apache install directory (should be one level up) 9. Type make again. Then do your make install. 10. Make sure that you have all your environment variables set up. $MI_WEBCONFIG is essential. 11. To start this instance of apache, you will need to edit your httpd.conf file appropriately for your server. Then stop the other instance of apache using the bin/apachectl script in its home directory. Use the bin/apachectl script in your new apache directory to start the new instance. 12. If you're having trouble using webdriver, make sure that you are referring to the new webdriver binary (not still trying to use the old one). 13. Editing the new web.cnf file is confusing the first time... but its really fairly straightforward. One more hint: This isn't at all like using web database 3.32. Erase from your memory how 3.32 worked! You'll have a much easier time making 4.0 work. If you need more help let me know. I've done this install more times that I care to admit.
