Hi, I installed informix 7.20 (sql,4gl,se) on a i586 based linux server. I have problems with 4gl compiled programs when I execute: Erreur de segmentation. (Segmentation error.) Has someone a solution thanks -- Serge Jamard Cdti50@ac-caen.fr ////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
I've never used informix on a linux machine, but segmentation faults are sometimes caused by indexing past the bounds of an array - ie you declare an array of 100 elements then try and access (or assign a value to) element 101 or 102 (easily done if loading data from a table). Also are you trying to access or assign values to a form field (on screen) when the form is not displayed? Or more than one form is displayed? (Sorry I can't be more specific - this was a problem I encountered 2 or 3 years ago! Nope,
Set environment variable
INFORMIXC="gcc -fwritable-strings" export INFORMIXC
then recompile.
PS When will Informix fix things so that this is not required?

I believe this is a flag which if you set before compiling would help you get rid of the core dumps. There may also be other reasons for core dumps, such as non initialization of variables etc. -- Compliments of QueriX -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- QueriX 4GL Compilers are Informix 4GL Compatible, and Connection to other RDBMS such as Oracle. The most recent versions of Linux include the new GCC which is based on the EGCS (improved Pentium code generator) project and generates libraries and code which are NOT compatible with the libraries that Informix compiled with GCC prior to the change over. If this may be the problem see the Informix WEB site, D4GL forum, for information about getting the older GCC and installing it as an OPTIONAL compiler to use for 4GL source. -- Art S.
