What is $INFORMIXDIR set to? There are a number of environment variables which need to be set before you initialize Informix - on Unix and Windows. You should check your PATH as well. The best thing is to look for a FAQ or HOWTO for your platform (is it Linux? you didn't mention many^h^h^h^h any details). Art Kagel has written the book on how to install Informix under Linux, and you can probably find pointers to his document by doing a power search on c.d.i. in deja.com. Maybe you installed the tools after installing the server software. Axel
