Linux testing issue - sformbld
Posted in 2011
Topics: Server Administration, Networking & sqlhosts Configuration
I am testing moving our system from HPUX to Linux. sformbld and
sperform, and now DBD-Informix give the error below. Dbaccess works
fine.
newcx:/usr/bin # sformbld -d
IBM INFORMIX-SQL Version 7.50.UC4
Copyright (C) International Business Machines Corporation 1984-2008.
Software Serial Number RDS#R000000
Enter desired name for the form: tdoc
Enter the name of the database used by the form: cars
The appl process cannot connect to the database server newcx_shm.
See error number -25588.
Database cars not found or not correct format
newcx:/usr/bin #
Here is the sqlhosts.
#
newcx_shm onipcshm newcx newcx
newcx onsoctcp localhost istarcarsi
istarcarsi onsoctcp newcx istarcarsi
FWIW, I am running in a VM on my laptop, so nslookup cannot find the
server newcx, but it is in the hosts file.
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.2 newcx.site newcx
# special IPv6 addresses
::1 localhost ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback
fe00::0 ipv6-localnet
ff00::0 ipv6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ipv6-allnodes
ff02::2 ipv6-allrouters
ff02::3 ipv6-allhosts
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

So DB-Access is able to connect via the shared memory connection?
If so, so should other ESQL/C-based programs.

I worry about people running as root when I see a hash (#) in the prompt...

Does this work?
dbaccess cars - <<!
info tables;
!
Here is the sqlhosts.

Since shared memory connections are inherently for the local host, try using
localhost instead of newcx for the 3rd column of the first line of the
sqlhosts file. Ideally, you should be able to use the host name too, but
this will (probably) get you going.
