Querying a Redbrick server linked to SQL server 7+
Posted in 2000
Hi, We have linked an Informix Redbrick database to a SQL Server 7 thru ODBC. The link itself is good, and I can use OPENQUERY (LINKEDSERVER,'query') but it is very slow. I have tested queries from a 3rd party tool that goes to the DSN and from OPENQUERY and OPENQUERY is always slower. I know in SQL Server 7 I can refer to an object with LinkedServer.Database.Schema.Table but I can't get the notation right for our case. I am sure that this query should run at least as fast as in WinSQL (the ODBC client I am using to double check the queries). My linked server is called REDBRICK. I have tried: REDBRICK.DatabaseName.dbo.TableName REDBRICK.DatabaseName.username.TableName and neither works. I would appreciate if anyone can at least point me in the right direction. What drives me crazy is that OPENQUERY works, but its just too slow, otherwise I would not even bother doing this. Thanks for any help or guidance you can provide, Pedro A.
