alter table ... add rowids

When I try to execute the following command : "alter table mytable add rowids" on a fragmented table, Informix gives me the error message : 261: Cannot create file for table (pps.mytable). 131: ISAM error: no free disk space The table have a size off 7 Go, fragmented by expression in 4 dbspaces with (4 + 6 + 2 + 4) Go in each one I have at least 2Go available in each fragment The PDQ is active. PDQPRIORITY=100, PSORT_NPROCS=40, PSORT_DBTEMP=/users/tmp1:/users/tmp2:/users/tmp3 The /users have 3 Go Available I have four temporary dbspaces with 512 Mo ench one Can you help me to execute this command Best Regards M. Mohamed This type of alter table cannot be done as an 'in place alter' it has to be completely done at the time the command is executed. This will take some considerable time (especially if there are many indexes), requires exclusive access to the table while it is being done and requires enough space to hold two copies of the entire table. An alternative strategy might be to unload the data, drop the table and recreate with rowid, reload the table and then reindex followed by update statistics. This will achieve your end result, tidy your data and probably take a shorter time to run although it will require more preparation and 'nursing'.
