Re: Solaris on an Intel box

We are running SE 7.1 on solaris 2.5.1 Pentium Pro 200. Solid as a rock! We run a call center that works 18 hours a day, 7 days a week. Averaging 10 users ( 20 peak), plus a Web Site (StrongHold). We were using another Intel based Unix before and Xenix before that. Nothing else has preformed as will as Solaris. We are thinking of adding a second CPU to the machine. From the numbers I have seen the Sun hardware is faster, but not enough to fit on a price/performance curve. I would be comfortable running up to 50 users on this setup (with the extra CPU). We are using Wide Ultra SCSI disks, 100baseTX ethernet(3Com) and 256M of RAM. The only thing to watch out for is in picking the hardware (VIDEO CARD) make sure it is on the Solaris supported list. They keep an updated list on their website. We are thinking of adding an NT box to file server our Windows machines but are going to upgrade to the new 2.6 and use it's native Windows networking.
