The following will work unless you actually need to join tables between the instances: Rewrite your applications to open two explicit connections, one to each server, and switch between them in the application using SET CONNECTION TO ... That will go directly to the two servers and not go to the one server through the other as a remote query on a local connection will. Then you can open or close the connections as needed. Art Art S.
