More on I-Net for Windows 5.01
Posted in 1995
So the familiar hallmarks of I-Net PC (remsql, etc.) are consigned to the history books with 5.01 for Windows. According to the configuration manual, if you want to use TCP/IP, the only requirement now is any Winsock 1.1-compliant copy of WINSOCK.DLL. What is the most cost-effective way to acquire this animal? Hopefully full-blown copies of FTP PC/TCP are sent to the self-same history books? Is if *really* only a copy of WINSOCK.DLL you need? (I mean, I got one stuck to a magazine last week!) And excuse any ignorance but do you have to start any TSRs any more, if you want to use TCP/IP? (I know there's inetipx.exe if you want to use IPX) Does it actually hurt (ie. would it explain the -932/ "WinSock: getservrbyname: Error reading WSANO_DATA" errors I got at a site today) if you've left the old PC/TCP stuff hanging around in the PC's memory? akent@cix.compulink.co.uk (Andy Kent) -------------------------------------
