Re: Size of dbexport

Hi Russ,
Thanks very much for your reply.
Basically when I first wrote this I put maximum ascii sizes for ints, smallints
and floats.
This came out with a maximum size that was 100% to large.
I then tried selecting max from these columns. This would work, the only
problem is that it does a sequential scan on each value. On a database of this
size that was taking hours and this is for an upgrade process to upgrade live
client sites where minimul down time is critical.
AVG would have been a good estimation but again I would have the time
constraints when upgrading live sites.
What I did in the end was scalled down my binary data factors based on the data
in a client database.
Now it's comming out about 20% over. This is fine as it allows for an increase
in data density.
Once again, thanks very much for your responce.
Kind Regards
Sean
