If you supply a non-zero value rather than inserting a 0 in a serial field, it will use the value you provide. Uniqueness is not inherently garanteed - you must add a unique index onto the serial column for that. Perhaps if you provide some detail on just what behavior you are experiencing with serial columns, we can provide some explanation. Dave
