Panther (11.70) is available
Posted in 2010
Announcement thread for IDS 11.70 (Panther) availability. Two side issues came up: the release letter omitted AIX 5, but Passport Advantage listings confirmed the AIX package supports AIX 5L V5 and AIX 6, so that was cleared up. Later a user reported the Linux x86 Ultimate Edition installer crashing on SLES 10 with a JVM floating-point exception/core dump, asking if SLES 10 is supported (machine notes list SLES 11). Replies suggested it should work, guessed a Java version problem, and advised opening a ticket with IBM support; no actual fix is recorded in the thread.

Hi, I'm glad to inform that Panther (v11.70) is already available: http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/cgi-bin/ssialias?subtype=ca&infotype=an&appname =iSource&supplier=877&letternum=ENUSZP10-0472# and you can find it on PA also. I'm sure a lot of questions, comments and doubts will be raised, so please let them come :) Regards. -- Fernando Nunes Portugal http://informix-technology.blogspot.com My email works... but I don't check it frequently... --00221532cdfc7e9e36049268105d
Rather sad 11.7 is not available for AIX 5.3, anyone know if it is backwards compatible? However there is an interesting Red Book mentioned :- http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg247884.pdf "IBM Informix Developers Handbook" amongst others. Apologies, I didn't go to PA. Like a fool I believed what was written in the release letter, which did not mention AIX 5 in any way shape or form. So, not having any experience with any version of 11.XX, "Linear scale out beyond a single cluster and better hardware utilization using Informix Flexible Grid". Would this mean XPS-like dbslices and such, or is that arena still reserved for DB2 Enterprise Edition? No distributed dbslices like XPS, no. Details on the Grid feature will be forthcoming today, but basically more different and more flexible configuration of grids of ER and MACH11 servers to allow for massive scalability. Art Art S. Hi Fernando, Thanks for the update on IDS 11.70. This was also reported at DBTA - Database Trends and Applications at _http://www.dbta.com/_ (http://www.dbta.com/) . It's nice to see IDS mentioned in places other than just at one of IBM's web sites. Regards, Bruce Marchu
Hello all informix-users! I`ve got a question because of the IDS11.70-Version: I`ve downloaded the following Package on IBM-Passport-Advantage: " Informix Ultimate Edition V11.70.UC1 Linux x86 Multilingual(CZMW0ML) " and i wanna install this on a machine with a SLES10 environment. I read in the ids_machine_notes_11.70 that this product is licensed on SLES 11, but i think there must be a possibility to install it on SLES 10. Any ideas? Thanks for your efforts. Sascha
It should work. Contact tech support. You got a year of support included with your Ultimate Edition license (besides installation support is included with all editions), so take advantage. I had no trouble installing under Ubuntu 9.10 which is the same kernel as SLES 10. Art Art S. I don't know for sure, but I'm gonna bet that it's a Java version issue. I was thinking that, Madison, but I thought that Panther resolved all those Java version problems in the installer by always using its own bundled Java engine. Certainly I had no trouble installing Panther on my Linux machine even though I had trouble with every Cheetah install - always having to force it to use the embedded Java. Art Art S. I'm not yet sure, but I believe that one of the virtues of the new installer is that it always uses the included JRE. What can happen is that the included Java has some incompatibility with the OP's system... Did you try -i swing and -i console options? Regards.
