I have recently installed Informix I-NET and am using it to access a remote online server and have found that the interactive performance is terrible. By "interactive" I mean querying up a set of records and browsing through them. I found that there is pretty close to a 2 second delay from the time you hit "n" until the record is displayed. This is on an idle computer accessing and idle server over an idle network, so there should be no other things interfering. I have tested the response time using only I-STAR and a remote on-line engine and have found excellent response time on the same computers (less than 1/2 second to go to next row). Is anyone else using I-NET in this way? Is this performance typical? My exact configuration is as follows: Front End Database Server --------- ------------------------- 486DX-50 486DX2-66 SCO-UNIX 3.2.4.1 SCO Unix 3.2.4.1 SCO TCP/IP 1.2.0i SCO TCP/IP 1.2.0i Informix-SQL 4.10.UC2 Informix-Online 5.00.UD5 Informix-4GL 4.10.UC4 Informix-STAR 5.00.UD4 Informix-NET 5.00.UD1 The network connecting them is a completely seperate 1 cable 10baseT network. There are no other machines connected to that network. Please e-mail specific suggestions to "voorst@dordt.edu" (don't have news yet) or post I-net info if appropriate.
