Convert a Blob field to a Text field

Hi, I need to be able to check data that is stored in the first 100 characters of a Blob data field, using Informix SQL. Is there any way using SQL code, to extract say the first 100 characters of a Blob field and put it into a Text field ? Many thanks ... Glen

Glen You can't do it via SQL alone. An application program (esqlc, jdbc) calling some APIs is need to accomplish the job you wanted. If you just want to search some some key words. A text search blade (ETX, basic text) may be helpful.
