To avoid long transactions you must split your transaction into smaller ones (this is what you've done) or increase size and number of your logical logs. --------------------------------------------------- With best regards, Yuri Dovgart SAP R/3, Informix technical consultant, Senior System Consultant System Architecture and High Availability Systems, 'Telecominvest' company Email y_dovgart@tci.ukrtel.net ICQ 39284285 > Thanks... > > > Jung-Hui Cheng > cheng@dbtel.com.tw > > >
I use IDS 7.31UC2 on HP-UX 10.20. When I use the LOAD FROM file-a INSERT INTO table, I always got the LONG TRANSACTION. The file-a contains about 60,000 records. If I split the file-a into two files (each file contains about 30,000 records), that is OK. I do not know what kind of reason causeing such situation. How to avoid it ? Thanks... When you use the LOAD FROM .. INSERT INTO functionality, Informix will log this as one transaction. That's why splitting the files into two separate loads eliminated the problem. To avoid it, you could: 1. Do as you have already done -- split the load files. 2. Switch the database to no logging and use LOAD FROM .. INSERT INTO. 3. Use DBLOAD -- gives the ability to commit after every N rows. 4. Use HPL -- I'm experimenting with it now.
