Q: how to list all chunks of an Informix 11 instance while the server is offline. Answers: oncheck -pr works with the instance down (it may appear to hang while trying to connect, then reads the root chunk directly); a core dump from oncheck -pr suggests a bad ONCONFIG ROOTPATH/ROOTOFFSET or a corrupt root chunk. Alternative offered: read $INFORMIXDIR/etc/oncfg_${INFORMIXSERVER}.${SERVERNUM}, which holds the last dbspace/chunk layout. The poster used the oncfg file successfully and took the oncheck core dump to IBM support.

I need to be able to get a list of all chunks within an Informix 11 database
whilst it is down ? Is this possible, and has someone already written
something to do this ?

Would this work with the database down ? An unable to check at present, as all
my systems need to be up.
Also, oncheck -pr produces a core dump, is there any way to debug this to find
out why ?
Jim,
you can also check $INFORMIXDIR/etc/oncfg_${INFORMIXSERVER}.${SERVERNUM}
file, that has the last Dbspaces/Chunks configuration.

Oncheck -pr should work fine if your system is down. If you are core dumping,
I suspect wherever your rootp[ath at rootoffset is pointing to in your
onconfig is corrupt. Assuming you have the onconfig set correctly???

Thanks for your help. The oncfg file was exactly what I wanted.
By trying to run oncheck -pr, it has highlighted a potential issue which I
will raise with Informix support
oncheck -pr should work even when the instance is offline.

It should work with the server down, yes. It will seem to hang for a while
trying to connect to the instance, but when it finally times out it will
read the root chunk directly.
