You mean ontape -s, dont you? Anyway check out the IIUG archives for some
excellent scripts that do (more or less) what you ask.

Subject: Automated backup for Online & NT?
Hi, everyone. I was hoping someone might be able to help me out on this
one...
I work for a software house that creates and implements data warehousing
systems. It is a Windows NT 4.x application, that we develop, and all
systems
use Informix Online DS 7.3 (others that are not are in the process of being
upgraded). The database is generally hosted by an NT machine as well. All
of
the smaller operations have no on-staff DBAs and generally run automated
backups
at a pre-determined hour. Does anyone know of a way to run an automated
backup
(tape or other) that would produce the same effects as an 'onstat -s'
command?
Or, at the very least, a utility that would help the low-maintenance types
out?
Further, being small locations, they don't want to pay a lot of money for
one.
I appreciate everyone's time.
