But it predicts future application`s architecture. Problems arise when you try to change this architecture according to your needs. For example, if you have database fields from several different tables in one SuperTable, NE expects that you retrieve values into them with one SELECT statement (with joined tables). This solution is nice, but only for small tables. More preferable solution is to select rows only from the main table and to use special SELECT statements to fill values to other SuperFields only when necessary (i.e. only when the row is visible on the screen). This solution produces much less overhead. But it is not simple to program it in NE. Next thing, what I miss in NE, is the feature of reading only those rows that where scrolled by the user. That means, initially only several rows are read in and only if the user scrolls down, more rows are read. This fueature is common in e.g. SQL Windows and VisualWorks (ParcPlace). I am not satisfied with NE OO features too. E.g. When you define your own window class with changed parametres (like colour, window style etc.), these parametres are not inherited by subclassed windows. It is also impossible to add new parametres to a constructor function. Summarizing, my impression for NE is not very good and I wouldn`t use this version in a real application development. Comments: My opinion depends on the fact, that I have been using NewEra only for a month. So, perhaps, I am not right. ____ ##################################################### | / | | / / \\ # Kristian Nandrasky e-mail: kiko@softec.sk # | / | | / | | # SOFTEC spol. s r. o. phone : 42-7-376179 ext. 24 # | / | | / | | # Dubravska 3 42-7-376183 ext. 24 # |/\\ | |/\\ | | # 842 21 Bratislava fax : 42-7-3709232 # | \\ | | \\ | | # Slovakia # | \\ | | \\ | | ##################################################### | \\ | | \\ \\____/ -- ____ ##################################################### | / | | / / \\ # Kristian Nandrasky e-mail: kiko@softec.sk # | / | | / | |
