Neil,
I think that it is a shell issue with newline characters.
To verify that run your scriptlet without ^J characters:
dbaccess stores_demo << !
output to /dev/null
select * from customer!
If it runs correctly, you have to find newline character
for your shell.

I don;t think it's anything like that, As I say, the same sql/script runs
fine on v9 on Solaris, or on v10 on any other OS. I've raised an IBM
Informix Tech Support call, 431612, so I guess I'll find out the IBM
response in due course.
