Informix has four database modes No Logging, Unbuffered Logging, Buffered Logging, and ANSI Logging. You cannot perform any transaction (BEGIN WORK, ROLLBACK WORK, COMMIT WORK) on a database that was created with no logging. This is the default mode whenever you create a database. If you want to perform transaction you use the other three modes. But with ANSI Logging, the database is always in a state of transaction meaning, you don't have to execute a BEGIN WORK to start a transaction. You just have to COMMIT WORK or ROLLBACK WORK. And once you end a transaction it starts another one immediately. > > Is there any way that i can disable the rollback feature and commit the transaction with out explicity > giving 'COMMIT' ? May be because of that i could not able to rollback the transaction. > I don't know of any database that does what you want. In the first place how would the database know when to commit or rollback within a transaction, unless to explicitly specify so. The reason for having a transaction is because you want to group a series of SQL DML statements and treat is as one sequence. But you can use a database without logging. It automatically finalizes all updates. You don't need to specify COMMIT or ROLLBACK, you can't even execute BEGIN WORK because no transaction can occur in a No LOgging database. In a No Logging database, the database server treats individual SQL DML statement as a "single transaction". For more information in creating databases refer to the Informix SQL Sytax guide available on their website. > Pl. reply me at the earliest. > > Rgds, > bala
