C-ISAM and Java
Posted in 1999
Question: how to read C-ISAM files directly from Java without going through Informix SE/JDBC — is there a native JDBC driver for C-ISAM files? Several posters echoed the same need. No direct JDBC-to-C-ISAM driver was identified. Suggested workarounds were an ODBC driver for C-ISAM (from Easysoft, sold via Byte Designs) used with a then-beta JDBC-ODBC bridge, possibly requiring a Windows machine in the chain, with a native JDBC-C-ISAM product only promised for the future. Another poster mentioned commercial OLE DB providers for C-ISAM (e.g. ISG) but asked, unanswered, whether Java could use them. No definitive resolution recorded.

Hi, anybody know of a way of accessing C-ISAM files from a Java program, without throwing in SE and JDBC? Is there a direct JDBC driver to access these files? thanx

Check out Byte Designs. By now they may have JDBC driver. I know they have an ODBC driver. anthonybac@my-deja.com wrote: > In article <37844BBE.3514CABF@gelrevision.nl>, > Karin & Paul Uiterwaal <uiterwaal@gelrevision.nl> wrote: > > Hi, > > > > anybody know of a way of accessing C-ISAM files from a Java program, > > without throwing in SE and JDBC? Hi, We have a ODBC driver for C-ISAM (Byte Designs sell it), We have a JDBC-ODBC bridge in beta at the moment, and in the near future we will be offering a JDBC-CISAM solution, but thats not ready yet. If you don't mind having a WinTel PC in the chain, we can do something now. if that's any help look at http://www.easysoft.com and http://beta.easysoft.com -- Nick Gorham, Easysoft, UK.
Can Java (or Visual J++, which is NOT the same), access Microsoft OLE DB data providers? I have been hunting for a public domain OLE DB provider for C-ISAM. If you have any information on that, I would appreciate it. If you can access OLE DB, there are several commercial OLE DB providers for C-ISAM data (i.e., not using Informix software). ISG has a native C-ISAM provider that I have tested.
