Perhaps the logs are full, since the thread is waiting in a critical
section for some significant time period? Set LTAPEDEV to /dev/null and run
ontape -a to clear them.
As for moving the development DB to another chunk, that will not help much
if you want to shutdown the database. You would need to move the
development database to a sepeate instance.

Subject: onmode -z
I am unable to kill a session that is in 'begin work and critical session'
(ouput of
onmonitor --> Status --> userthreads) with onmode -z command.
What could be the reason.
The database is a development database and all the other sessions threads
are
waiting on checkpoint.
(Do i separate the development database on to another chunk so that if it
may happen
the database may be shutdown)
