Re: Senior Oracle DBA now Learning Informix by Request

Its a troll bait argument. The fact is that Oracle employees know that the statement is true. There is a very, very large Informix shop that runs with only a handfull of DBAs. They also know that IBMers and exIBMers (Myself Included) are not allowed to talk about their customers. To give you a better example, Informix ran an ad that stated "9 out of 10 phone calls go through an Informix database." (I'm paraphrasing. I have that poster stashed at my mother in law's basement.) Its a true statement. Only thing is that each company treats the fact that they use Informix as a dirty little secret because its their competitive advantage. Note: I do support multiple databases from multiple database vendors. I like Informix because it is easy to maintain and its well developed. (Extensibility anyone?) ;-) But getting back on the point. How many Informix customers sued Informix due to muck ups on setting up things like SAP? (Nike seems to come to mind....) But hey! What do I know? I'm dumb enough to volunteer and run for an IIUG Board seat. ;-) >I could, but I'm not allowed to. >Quite possibly this is because customer thinks >he has such a big advantage by using IDS, that they don't >want to spread the word much. So what you're actually saying is that Oracle turned you down. ;-) (Sorry, I couldn't resist. :-P Seriously, we (IBMers and exIBMers) can't say. But your Oracle rep(s) should know. If they don't, then they don't know their industry. But there's been enough talk that only a maroon doesn't know who we're talking about. -G _________________________________________________________________ Get the latest Windows Live Messenger 8.1 Beta version.'Join now. http://ideas.live.com
