Dirk, I'm a little confused. Is it a Java web aplication running on Tomcat? Or is it a standalone AWT/Swing/... Java application that connects to IDS? If it's a web application then you should setup corresponding DataSource in Tomcat's configuration and use it in web apps code. If it's standalone app then you could tunnel its connections to app server over ssh to db server and keep user account on app server as are now.
