I need the standard-acoccount-infomation (username & password) for a newly installed infomix se? Does anyone know them? mfg Roman
There is no standard. There must exist a user 'informix' password: anything you want, ONLY member of group 'informix', which owns the directory into which the Informix software was installed. Other than that you can do whatever you like. Art S. What effects - if any - does this have on the Informix engine, the UNIX operating system, etc? I am running Informix Universal Server (9.14) on a SUN SPARCstation-5 with Solaris 2.5.1 Thanks in advance, Avi. -- /\\ \\ /| Avi Abrami, Analyst/Programmer, Telegate Ltd. /__\\ \\ / | 7 Haplada Street, Or-Yehuda, ISRAEL / \\ \\/ | Phone:+972-3-5388717 Fax:+972-3-5335877 eMail:avia@telegate.co.il
Nothing !!! (that I know of). I've created a number of users within the Informix group with no problems. It all depends on what UNIX level security strategy you want to adopt. Basically, if a user other than informix belongs to group informix, then that user can: * Modify almost any of the installed material in INFORMIXDIR. * Bypass any Informix-imposed security by accessing the data directly. * Accidentally destroy data files (especially with SE). If the users who are in group informix are aware of what they are up to, and they're experts, and they're always careful, and they are always trusted with access to everything, then no great harm is done. But I don't trust myself that much, and I don't find it necessary to be in group informix. Basically, adding users to group informix is like adding users to one of the (not so standardized) system groups like root, sys, bin. It allows that user access to things which most people are not intended to have access to. It may not matter, but it is an extra vulnerability which you are usually better off avoiding since the privilege usually doesn't really confer any major benefits. Ultimately, though, it is a judgement call. It certainly doesn't affect the software unless (accidentally) misused. > Avi Abrami <avia@telegate.co.il> wrote: > > Art S.
