logical log cannot be freed
Posted in 1997
Hello ...
Does anyone know how to fix the following problem ?
We have installed Informix Online Workgroup Server 7.2 on Sun Solaris
2.5. We are building database application that can be accessed via Web
using Netscape Live Wire Pro 1.0.
At one time while developing application, we received database error
stating that the logical log was full and needed back up. The problem
happened after we had backed up all logical log using ontape utility.
The status of logical log remained UB (Used and Backed up). It couldn't
be changed to F (Free). After consulting the reference books, we knew
that the only possible reason wass long transaction (there was still bug
in our program or some operations that needed more log than space left
in logical space). So, we restored the database using our level 0
archive ( we took our archive after we created the database structure;
the archive contained the last logical log file; how can I prevent the
last logical log file from being included in the archive to prevent long
transaction from reoccuring ?). We did not roll forward our logical log.
Later, the problem happened again. This time, we try to take the server
to quiscent mode first with the hope that all transactions would be
rolled back thus closing the transaction. The log remained UB after we
took Informix online again.
We then decided to start all over again. We installed the server using
setup utility provided on CD-ROM distribution. We decided to save all
logical log on disk. When Informix server was on online mode, we tried
to make an archive level 0 and back up all filled logical log file. Even
when there is no databases created, the status of logical log files
remained UB and UBCL.
Could you please tell us why this happened ? Thank you for all your help
!!
