RE: onspaces error

Hi Guy and Jonathan,
Sorry if I put the post in the wrong place.
I am using Remote Desktop to get to the server as the server is not
local to me. I get the message if I used standard RD or the console
mode. Registry setting is correct and the same as my environment
variables %INFROMIXSERVER% and %ONCONFIG%
Based on the fact that my DB server is running with no complaints from
users of any type my backups are running normally and the fact that I
added a chunk in mid May, I'm confused too. The server was last
rebooted on 5/15/07 at which time it came up with no errors/warnings
logged. I added 2 chunks that after the reboot and no other
upgrades/changes since then.

Hi,
Assuming you rule out permissions problems with the onconfig file, are
you logged in via Remote Desktop? Do you get the same error when
logged in directly?
Can you run regedit and check this Registry value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\Software\\\\Informix\\\\Online\\\\%INFORMIXSERVER%\\\\Environment
\\\\ONCONFIG
based on the INFORMIXSERVER value set in the command line environment?
I wouldn't really expect this value to be wrong or you'd have problems
running other commands.
Thanks
Guy

Have you looked at the full ACL (all the permissions) on the path

This error is sent to onspaces from oninit. Two ways you could trace it
further are:
1. Use regmon from sysinternals.com to track registry usage by the oninit.exe
process when onspaces is run. Set a filter of "oninit*" Look at the keys
accessed and any errors.
2. Use filemon from the same place with a filter of "oninit*" to see which
files are accessed and attempted to be accessed when you run the onspaces
command.

Hi,
Assuming you rule out permissions problems with the onconfig file, are
you logged in via Remote Desktop? Do you get the same error when
logged in directly?
Can you run regedit and check this Registry value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\Software\\\\Informix\\\\Online\\\\%INFORMIXSERVER%\\\\Environment
\\\\ONCONFIG
based on the INFORMIXSERVER value set in the command line environment?
I wouldn't really expect this value to be wrong or you'd have problems
running other commands.
Thanks
