Re: Fail Consistency Check

To all you folks who seem to be experiencing this Failed Consistency Check error message... According to what I learned on the On-Line Database Administration class last week, the inconsistencies you're finding are likely to be in your pages. In each page of data stored by on line, there are several header bytes of info including at datetime stamp. There are also several bytes of page trailer information for another datetime stamp. If these two datetime stamps (at the beginning and end of the page) don't agree, you should get this failed consistency check error when you attempt to read data on this page. I believe somebody also said, that this is the error message you will get if someone changes your Unix system time (even by just a few seconds) without leaving the on-line system down long enough to compensate. (Eg. If you set the clock ten minutes ahead, do it while your system is off-line (or maybe just quiescent) and leave it down dor ten minutes.) I don't really know how to remedy this, except by unloading & recreating your table, but I'm sure someone must have an idea. Hope this helps!
