Is it possible to run/call an Informix 4GL routine from a stored procedure? I'm trying to get blobs into a database and have only been able to figure out how to do it with 4GL, but i can execute SQL statements or stored procedures via ODBC. So can i have a stored procedure run a 4GL routine to load the blob?
You can run anything on the OS with a SYSTEM call (documented in our SPL
sections), but setting up the environment sometimes is complicated. It works
similar to a 4gl RUN statement, so you're running a compiled (or rds)
program, not just a simple 4gl function. You might want to consider using
SYSTEM to run a shell script that sets up environment and does the load via
dbaccess/load.

Thank you. It worked. However there is there a way to return the success or failure of the 4GL routine through the stored procedure? It doesn't look like SYSTEM can return anything. Matthew
The only practical way is to have to 4GL write a status record into the database somewhere. Art S. Kagel Matthew wrote: > Thank you. It worked.
