OK. Yes you have to run sqlexed. The service name passed to it on the command line must correspond to a line in sqlhosts that specifies a network connection (ex tcp), the name of the local machine, and a server name specific to the network connection. You cannot specify the same service as is being used for local shared memory or pipe connections. If your normal connection has an sqlhosts entry like this: fredsrv shm fred sqlsvc you also need an entry: fredsrv_net tcp fred sqlnetsvc with appropriate entries in /etc/services and then execute sqlexecd as: sqlexecd sqlnetsvc -l $INFORMIXDIR/istar.log & Art S.
