The last I heard, and this was on 8th July, was this: " NewEra is not a "dead" product. We released a controlled release of NewEra 3.0 in December, a GA release of NewEra 3.0 in March, and we are in the alpha cycle for NewEra 3.1 with an anticipated release of late July, early August, and we are formulating plans for our 3.11 release. Our strategy for NewEra is to continue quality improvments, to add IUS support, to open the toolset to more outside tools, and to reduce maintenance costs. The 3.11 release will focus on continued customer quality, improvement in IUS quality, and internal architectural improvments. About a quarter of the Palo Alto Tools Group is dedictated to NewEra development,QA, and Technical Publications, we have a dedicated group of Tech Support people supporting tools with specialists in NewEra, Platform Engineering is still doing ports of this product. Through recent reorganizations, this has not changed. The company is still behind this product. I would like to remind everyone that there is a formal process for ending the life of a product. A product is in one of four categories depending on where it is in its life. It is either in full enhancement, or full mainenance, or limited maintenance, or time and materials. We move products through these categories carefully because it impacts our customers. NewEra is in category one, full enhancement. That is, we will make enhancements and bug fixes and customers who have purchased support for full enhancement are entitled to get them. We should all be careful about discussing where in its life any product is. Casual words like "dead" are imprecise at best and misleading at worst. This is especially damaging when the company is trying to recover from its financial problems. The fear, uncertainty, and doubt that it creates, slows down the sales cycle and causes a lot of important customers to want to engage in high level discussions that consume time and energy at a time when we are already working with smaller staffs. NEWERA IS IN THE FULL ENHANCEMENT CATEGORY! " But of course, things may well have changed since then. :-) Cheers, -- Mark. +----------------------------------------------------------+-----------+ |Mark D.
