I have not used 7.13 :or 7.2 though. As stated in the FM you can not update a text column in this way. You are limited to treating it like a blob with its limited options. Informix is sourly lacking in support for medium sized data like simple text. There is no "memo" field like every PC-based database has had for years. The varchar datatype is even limited to max 255 characters which is kind of laughable. You will, with all probability, get this support in the form of a datablade in the universal server when that is released.
