You realy need to read the book "Object-Relational DBMSs, The Next Great Wave" by Michael Stonebraker, Morgan Kaufmann Publishers, Inc, ISBN 1-55860-397-2 to realy make sure you know what's going on in the database industry right now, and how far along Informix is. This book was written befor Informix bought Illustra so you need to know that everything he describes will be fully integrated in the Informix Universal Server. Although Stonebraker started Illustra and now works for Informix this is a quite objective book that is required reading before selecting any database nowadays. Technically Informix is so far in front of all the rest that you have to find very strong arguments from other areas to select another vendor.
