Wingz Lookups

I want to be able to do a lookup against a range (HLOOKUP or VLOOKUP) and return the actual contents a cell. For example, if the cell is blank, I want the lookup to return a blank, not a zero. Is there any way to do this. In Wingz, I wrought a function that uses a series of lookups and eventually uses a range(makecell(x,y)) command to get the actual contents of a cell. I will elaborate on my current method at the end of the post. I would be interested if anyone knows how a vlookup or hlookup is programmed an d if it could be altered easily by a vendor to do what I want. Could I write a C external to do it. If so, how would I reference the spreadsheet from the C external. Any ideas would be warmly welcomed. My current method: Example: Range 1: (called OFFSETS) TEST1 TEST2 TEST3 TEST4 ROW# 1 2 3 4 5 <<<<Column Numbers>>>> RAnge 2: (called DB) TEST1 TEST2 TEST3 TEST4 ROW# Val1 val2 val3 4 xxx yyy zzz 0 5 I do a hlookup against OFFSETS and get the column for ROW# (5) and a hlookup against OFFSETS to find the column for TEST4 (4). I.E. I use the command hlookup("ROW#",OFFSETS,1) and HLOOKUP("TEST4",OFFSETS,1). Then I do a vlookup against DB looking for Val1 and return the ROW# (4). I.E. I use the command vlookup("VAL1",DB,hlookup("ROW#",OFFSETS,1)) Now I have the x and y coordinate to do a makecell(4,4) and get at the exact cell I want. I can tell it is blank by using the isblank(range( makecell(4,4))) command in Wingz. The only problem is that I have to do a large number of lookups for each lookup!Any alternative solutions would save my memory. My platform is a SUN IPX running 4.1.2 and Wingz 1.1b. I am in the process of converting to Solaris 2.3 and Hyperscript Tools. Thanks in advance. I will be very happy to post any solutions.
