Re: Next Extent Calc.
Posted in 1997
Hi! We have a utility from our application vendor which does this. It spits out all the tables which have over 8 extents (thus, requires defragging), the suggested next extent size and the current number of rows in the table at the time of the checking. Unfortunately, we received it as a binary executable (not sure if it's ESQL/C or 4GL C-Compiled), and I can't tinker with the code. I plan to write one in 4GL RDS that will do the same for all tables with more than 4 extents (or maybe make it configurable). When I do, I'll post it here or maybe someone could tell me who I should send it to for quality checking (maybe for eventual storage in the iiug or inx_util?). Right now, I'm completing a 4GL program to examine the fullness of index leaf nodes for all indexes in the database, and automatically drop and rebuild all indexes whose average free bytes are more than 60% of the page size. Will compile to 4GL C-Compiled when testing is complete. Let me know if anyone's interested! Thanks to all who responded on the Automatic Paging thread. I eventually worked out a plan with my paging company.
