ontape -c will continuously backup logs, and if you really don't want thebackups you can set your backup device to /dev/null

Subject: Informix logfiles truncating
Hello !
We developing distributed client-server application and we using
Informix Dynamic Server Workgroup Edition 7.3... on UnixWare 7.1.1.
Our database uses transaction logging.
Our database has couple static tables with customers information
and several tables with dynamic data. Amount of static data is not
big and data can be backuped for example once per week or when
operator will decide to do it. Dynamic data should not be backuped
anyway.
But in our system dynamic data changes every several minutes. It
cause a fast growing of logfiles, and every two - three days
Informix stops and waits while we backup logfiles. While Informix
waiting for backup users of our system can't work. Increasing of
logfiles size can only postpone this situation.
We want to give our customers possibility to evaluate our software.
During this evaluation we do not suppose to backup any data and we
do not want to worry about logfiles at all. We want to have some
'black box' which can be started once and work without any service
and operator's actions. We understand and accept that in case if
something will happened with database it will be impossible to
restore data.
How can we tune Informix Server to truncate / reuse / automatically
backup logfiles ?
Are there another solutions to avoid problem with continuous logfiles backup
?
Thanks for help!
