The platform is an old Altos running Xenix and Informix 3.3 (how embarrassing). He had a backup copy of the database directory on a couple of floppies (tar format), but the problem is, when reading it back off the floppies onto the new hard disk, there was a read error on one of the floppies. (Yes, it was one of those days.) We were able to get the data files (.dat) but couldn't get past the read error to get all the related index (.idx) files. So here's the question: Can I save the data? I tried rebuilding the tables, copying the old data files over the new ones and then running bcheck, but it does not recognize the new data. Any ideas or suggestions??? Thanks! Howard BTW: He is getting new hardware and an upgraded version of Informix, but we want to get him running in the meantime and try to save seven years worth of data...
