Of course: onstat -a. But lots of people will tell you that. What you
need to know also is how to read the output. You'll find that in the
"Informix-OnLine Dynamic Server Administrator's Guide, Volume 2"
for version 7.1. Mine's dated December, 1994, and is part no 000-7777.
You should have read that entire manual anyway, by the time you get to
where you're asking questions like this. :) (But you knew that!)
Beware, some of the output of this command is skewed by the startup
process, and some of it is not throroughly documented.
If you have an X station, you can use the onperf utility. See the
"Informix-OnLine Dynamic Server Performance Guide" version 7.1. Dated
December, 1994, part no 000-7708. Onperf has the ability to present
some of the onstat data graphically, and contains a history through
which you can scroll.
I've found Joe Lumbley's book helpful, too. It's called "The Informix
DBA's Survival Guide", from Prentice-Hall, but I don't have the ISBN
details available.
Elizabeth Suto's book on Performance Tuning (available from Prentice-
Hall through Informix Press) has good information, too. She concentrates
on--of course--performance issues such as buffer use monitoring and
memory management.
Your operating system has its own tools. They are ps, sar, vmstat, iostat,
cpustat, or that smit stuff.
There are several companies who make products which monitor processes,
but (hint, hint) I don't have their trade-show goodies at hand to remind
me of their names (Platinum, for one. I have their hat). Attend a
trade show. Surf the net.
