Finnochio did not cut any R&D project. We hear him saying, almost everytime he talks, that he is prepared to cut cost in any part of the company but R&D (he does what he says). Well, the cost cutting days are over. In fact last quarter, the R&D groups spent more. Number of employees increased in the last quarter. 2. As far as I know, there are no plans for any Java integration with 7.X server (i.e. running Java in the server). The reason is simple - 7.X + 9.1 = 9.2 server. No more development on 7.X line. 9.2 has Java-in-the-server and also on the clients. > But, to say that Oracle forced Informix in to the Java market is wrong. > Oracle has been able to sneak in to several Informix shops because some > large sites are risk adverse and didn't want to put all of their eggs in > one basket so > to speak. I am proponent of perl in the server more than Java in the server but that's my personal opinion. When we decided to add Java support in the server, it was important to allow the replacement of JVM because the JVM spec is just a spec. One implementation may have significantly better performance than the others. ----- Satish Katiyar (katiyar@informix.com) DataBlade Development Group Informix Software Oakland, CA, USA
