Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Not a troubleshooting thread: after the August 2003 Northeast US/Eastern Canada power blackout, Madison Pruet asked whether anyone running Informix HDR had their secondary server located outside the blackout zone, and whether HDR let them keep running instead of shutting down. Replies were mostly light-hearted or speculative — one poster assumed most sites used UPS units and shut down gracefully, another had a New York primary with an Orlando secondary but the primary never went down (apparently on generator). No actual HDR failover experience or conclusion is recorded.

Hi,
Did anyone affected by the blackout have the secondary outside of the
blackout area?

He's being funny.
For some bizarre reason, it was all over the newspaper sand TV here.

I think everyone has a UPS. I am sure all servers must have been shutdown
gracefully.

We had one of our servers in NY with the secondary in Orlando. The primary
didnt go down so I'm guessing they have a generator there. On second
thoughts, I will check why it didnt go down.

I'm sure that the UPS folks were able to shutdown gracefully. Just
wondering if anyone was able to utilize HDR and avoid having to shutdown at
all.
Thanks

Oh, just the States then. Nothing important.
