Unless you're looking to do low level networking type calls (ie, monkeying with sockets and so forth) all you should need is the Informix-Net product for DOS. With this you just write your front-end application (ie, ESQL/C, 4GL, Perform, whatever) as if it were running on the DOS box. Now, instead of running "startsql" you run "remsql" and your front-end application will access the database engine running on your Unix machine. As a prerequisite to running the Informix-Net for DOS product you will have to have a DOS TCP/IP product. It's been awhile since I've played with it, but I recall Informix-Net working okay with FTP's PC/TCP and Sun's PC/NFS. Also a caution, I've noticed from reading the other newsgroups that both PC/TCP and PC/NFS have been continously upgrading and improving their products, but to the best of my knowledge Informix-Net has not had an upgrade in quite awhile.
