ON-Bar w/ISM help
Posted in 1998
I'm trying to configure ON-Bar using ISM (Informix Storage Manager) for a datamart running on Solaris 2.5.1 with XPS 8.2.1. What I would like to do is either not backup the logical logs (similar to setting LTAPEDEV=/dev/null in versions 7.x and prior of OnLine) while still having a nightly cron job perform database backups. I've set LOG_BACKUP_MODE=NONE in my $ONCONFIG but ON-Bar will not perform database backups with this setting. Does anyone have any ideas or examples of how you've addressed this problem? I'd also entertain some configuration where the logs were backed-up to disk but overwritten regularly so as to not consume filesystem space. I'd be less happy with having either a continuous backup of logical logs to disk with another process which monitored and cleaned-up these volumes some how or a cron job which executed every minute or two to run a manual logical log backup and cleaned-up the volumes. I see these last 2 solutions as being much more error-prone and complicated. Regards, Bob Colombo bcolombo@mediaone.net bob.colombo@fmr.com
