Unfortunately I don't have Linux and NT on comparable hardware but I've seen enough to be confident of saying that you *could* spec up an NT box to be competitive - but that on the same hardware just about anything else, Linux included, would almost certainly out perform it and be more reliable. And for anyone thinking about SQL Server... Informix' competition has been Oracle for a long time. Larry Ellison recently offered a reward to anyone who could show benchmarks that show SQL Server even *approaches* Oracle.
